Materials and Supplies

  • silkspan (1 sheet)
  • cellophane tape
  • adhesive (527)
  • Tacky glue works well and is less toxic
  • 2 reeds from window shade
  • (apx 29" long)
  • strapping tape
  • narrow plastic straw
  • stapler
  • 1/8" diameter dowel-
  • apx 22 1/4" long
  • hole punch
  • string
  • weights
  • templates
  • wax paper strips

Decorate Kite

  • Cut kite according to template
  • Apply cellophane tape:
    • to bridle area on both sides of the silkspan
    • to top edges of kite on the front surface of the kite
    • Glue the two sides of the kites together
    • Glue the window shade reeds to the top edges of the kite on the back surface of the kite
    • Make holders for the cross support
      • straw piece apx 1.25"
      • strapping tape
    • Staple the support at points indicated on the template
    • Punch hole on tip of bridle and attach string

Checkout sealing possibilities:

  • using gelatin size
  • spray acrylic fixative
  • spray starch
  • acrylic medium
