Multilayers
and Image Superimposition
.
Materials:
- Plate laminated with ImagOn
Overview:
The concept of multiple layers of
ImagOn with superimposed imagery represents another image
creating potential of ImagOn. With this technique it is easy to adopt
the "Reduction Block Making and Printing Method" used in
linoleum and wood block printing.

- At any stage of the stripping
procedure the plate can be dried and layered with more layers of
ImagOn to build up images by superimposing and developing between each
layer.
- This application of photo
mechanical processes redefines the reproductive stigma normally
associated with photo etching because the plate and image are created
simultaneously. With this technique the edition size is limited to how
many prints that can be made from the plate.
- There is also the possibility to keep
adding more superimposed layers of ImagOn which have been exposed and
developed to additional imagery.
- This can be done at any stage of this
process.
- The most important thing to remember
when applying more layers of ImagOn, after the previous layers have
been inked and proofed, is to thoroughly remove all ink deposits. This
can be done first by cleaning the plate with vegetable oil and then
with a magnesium carbonate and water solution.
